A colposcopy photo helps in making the final diagnosis; a colposcopy exam is usually performed after a Pap smear test had detected human papilloma virus.
Most traditional treatments for cervical dysplasia are surgical procedures. If the lab report from the biopsies taken during this exam also comes back abnormal, then it is common, depending on the level of symptoms, for the doctor to recommend the best kind of treatment.

If moderate or severe levels show up, then a cone biopsy or LEEP procedure may be recommended. If there is just a mild dysplasia, it will be advised to have follow ups every three months or possibly to have a cryotherapy (freezing) of the cervix.
