Colposcopy results may be negative in spite of a vaginal wart or venereal wart being present. The first, most mild reading is an ASCUS (atypical squamous cells of undetermined significance) reading, which is commonly associated with HPV, but is not in all cases. All dysplasia levels are HPV related, and consist of mild, moderate, and severe, or CIN I, II, and III or LSGIL and HGSIL. Colposcopy results may be negative in spite of a vaginal wart or venereal wart being present.

The outcome of the exam not only shows if any abnormal cells were present on the cervix, which is called cervical dysplasia, but it will also grade the level of severity of the cells.
