Pregnancy After Cone Biopsy

A pregnancy after cone biopsy should be treated cautiously, but a pap smear test for detecting a genital wart virus is safe. If abnormal cells are present, a cryotherapy or cryosurgery can be performed as a second exam, but a conization or treatment should be put off until after the baby is born. Pap smears should be performed throughout the 40 weeks to check on the abnormal cells. Pap Smear, Genital Wart

A small sample of abnormal tissue is alright to take for testing while pregnant, but a cervical conization is not recommended if the patient is pregnant. If the sample taken is much larger than normal, it could easily cause the patient to not carry full term. A pregnancy after cone biopsy should be treated cautiously, but a pap smear test for detecting a genital wart virus is safe.
