Leep Cone




The leep cone is used for disorders caused by human papillomavirus, such as cervical dysplasia. The tissue removed is examined in a lab for cancer cells and to confirm that all the abnormal cells were removed. The abnormal cells in the tissues of the cervix are cut away during these procedures. The loop electrosurgical excision procedure and cervical conization are used as treatments for cervical dysplasia. Although HPV remains once the dysplasia is removed, the rate of recurrence is fairly low since they remove the tissue most susceptible to abnormal changes, and, immunity develops.
